How to Make Homemade Flour Tortillas
Start by combining the flour, lard, salt, and warm water in a mixing bowl or stand mixer fitted with a dough hook.
Knead the dough until smooth and soft. Divide the dough into evenly sized portions and roll each one into a smooth ball.
Place the dough balls onto a lightly greased tray, cover, and allow them to rest. Resting the dough helps relax the gluten, making the tortillas easier to roll out.
Lightly flour your work surface and rolling pin. Roll each dough ball into a thin round tortilla.
Heat a griddle or skillet over medium-high heat and cook each tortilla until light golden brown spots begin to form on both sides.
Transfer the cooked tortillas between clean towels to help keep them soft and warm.
