How to Make Homemade Sandwich Bread
Start by combining the warm water, instant yeast, sugar or honey, flour, salt, and melted butter in the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with a dough hook.
Knead the dough on low speed until it becomes soft, smooth, and elastic. If needed, add a little extra flour until the dough is soft but not sticky.
Transfer the dough to a lightly greased bowl and cover it with a towel. Allow the dough to rise in a warm place until doubled in size.
Once risen, gently punch down the dough and divide it into portions for your loaf pans. Shape each portion into a rectangle, pressing gently to remove air pockets.
Roll the dough tightly into loaves and pinch the seams closed. Place the dough seam-side down into buttered loaf pans and allow it to rise again until puffy and doubled.
Bake until the loaves are golden brown and fully baked through. Remove the bread from the pans and allow it to cool completely before slicing.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why is my sandwich bread dense?
Dense bread is often caused by not kneading long enough or not allowing the dough enough time to rise.
Can I freeze homemade sandwich bread?
Yes! Wrap the bread tightly and freeze for up to 3 months.
Why should bread cool before slicing?
Allowing the bread to cool helps the inside finish setting and prevents gummy slices.
Can I use honey instead of sugar?
Absolutely. Honey adds a slightly richer flavor and helps keep the bread soft.

- 4 tbsp melted butter
Instructions
- In the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the dough hook combine all 6 ingredients in the order as they're written.
- Knead at low speed until the dough comes together and is soft but not sticky. Add a few more tablespoons flour if necessary. Continue to knead for 3-5 minutes until the dough pulls away from the sides of the bowl and is soft and smooth.

Starting at the short end, roll up the rectangle into a tight roll and pinch the seams to seal. Cover with a towel and let rise for about an hour in a warm and draft-free place until doubled in size.

- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F and adjust oven rack to lower-middle position.
