Vanilla Extract

Homemade vanilla extract! Much cheaper than store bought.
- 750 ml 80 proof vodka, bourbon or rum
- 30 vanilla beans
Using a knife, slice down the middle of the vanilla bean length wise to expose the beans. Cut the bean as needed to fit into your bottle or leave whole. Then place 10 beans in each 8 oz jar
Using a funnel if needed pour your alcohol of choice into the bottle so the beans are fully submerged. Put the lid on and shake a few times.
Store Vanilla out of direct sunlight at room temperature. Shake once every couple of weeks. Vanilla made with vodka can be ready in 6 months, but 12 months is best. Darker alcohol takes 12 to 18 months.
