Ingredients
16ozcan pinto beans
1tbsplardoptional
3/4tspsalt
1/2tspground cumin
1tspgarlic powder
Instructions
Melt lard in medium saucepan.
Open a can of beans and drain them a little if there is a lot of liquid (reserve the liquid to add in case the beans seem too thick as you start mashing), leaving enough liquid so that the beans are barely covered.
Place beans in a medium saucepan with or without lard. Stir in the salt, cumin, and garlic powder.
Heat over medium-high heat until bubbly about 5 minutes.
Mix and mash the bean to the consistency you like.
Serve while warm
Notes
If you prefer garlic cloves over garlic powder you can add the cloves to the melted lard and sauté it for 1-2 minutes before adding the beans, salt, and cumin. An immersion blender can be used to blend the beans to a thinner consistency.
